Video Premiere: Piper Spray – “Goodbye, Rabbits”

Astute readers will remember the relatively recent blog post that graced this site regarding the befuddling and lovely Krolorog cassette, courtesy of Russian mastermind Piper Spray. The classy gents over at Hausu Mountain just shared a three-dimensional CGI interpretation of track thirteen, “Goodbye, Rabbits,” produced by James Webster. This vid kid also lays down dreamy clouds of vaporwave (sometimes aided and abetted by Keith Rankin) under the Death’s Dynamic Shroud.wmv moniker and has produced short animations for both his own music and for Rankin’s Giant Claw project. Webster chose “Goodbye, Rabbits” to document visually because “it captures the strange nostalgia and deep longing that permeate [Piper Spray’s] music . . . to me [he] has a sound of yearning to return to a place I’ve never been — some kind of lost childhood in a dreamworld — and this video gave me a chance to explore that theme. The longing to touch the untouchable, the eeriness of experiencing a surreal reality, the phantom pain of loss — like the krolorog that vanishes from beneath the hand, leaving only a shadow and an agonizing emptiness behind.” I couldn’t have said it any better myself.
