Sven at Work – “I Wanna Die in the Supermarket”

The last time I heard from the person-behind-the-curtain known as Log Across the Washer, I was picking my jaw up from the floor after hearing that particular spell of audacious narrative rock. Now working as Sven at Work, a hard left turn that is equally as shocking, and dare I say hitting every amazing guilty pleasure. Before the listener gets too hung up on the smooth jazz realness, there is a dark emergence in the middle of the cut that makes the whole affair satiny and sinister. Since the music lends quite a serious feeling, the title serves as both criticism and reflection, allowing the listener to bask in the type of background that underlies their trips through the bright fluorescent aisles of the superchain. But what is my desire? What do I want? Those stark, unforgiving lights will burn you alive, so Sven at Work recovers by offering an icy, welcoming gloss. All pleasures need not be guilty, and “I Wanna Die in the Supermarket” hits that hard with pop-art humor and true crime jazz. More please!
