V/A – Power Moves 015

As of my writing there are only a few cassette copies left of the capstone compilation, 015, released late October by Power Moves Label to formally mark its transition into Power Moves Library and the adoption of a new release format (Update: Sold out! Sorry gang). It opens with a delicate guitar piece courtesy of Cahill Locksmith, the duo of label proprietor Kevin and brother Patrick Cahill, immediately contrasted with a more thumping track from Ian Doig-Phaneuf’s A Souvenir project. That dynamic is omnipresent, with reverential passages of whimsical melancholia contrasted against more ascetic instances of deep aural focus, in a collection that gathers every project represented in the now completed Power Moves Label catalog — from Tristan Bath’s Missing Organs project to Sloom, the moniker of the label’s Toronto-based mastering engineer James A. Toth. 015 is also the label’s first professionally duplicated cassette, appropos of their new life as an even smaller-batch endeavor, and all proceeds will be donated to benefit earthquake relief in Nepal via the Kids of Kathmandu organization.
