“I had mentioned at the end of the last episode that a feature on Pumice was in the works for the weeks ahead, and I can assure you that is indeed still the case. But, in the interest of showcasing some more new music, along with a few recent record fair scores, I thought I’d go ahead and squeeze in another show before finalizing that feature one. On this episode, you’ll hear a heavy grip of LPs from the likes of The Lloyd Pack, Ian William Craig, Vanity of the Tongue, and The Electronic Hole, not to mention some utterly mesmerizing works on tape from LXV, Giant Claw, and Macho Blush. #1 – 11.29.2015 – London-based Indole Records shared the latest cassette, Wheel of Time, from proprietor Jimmy Billingham’s HOLOVR project, first covered here in 2014 — serving as one of our first and welcome leads into the international community the label has since contributed to charting with its releases. It’s actually the project’s second turn on Billingham’s home imprint, following his Line of Flight LP from earlier this year. Wheel of Time is a bit longer but set in the same whimsical universe, though overall it may have a more varied and consistent bounce. Grab a tape from Indole. -DP
#2 – 11.30.2015 – Archive-diving, also-British imprint Death Is Not The End unveiled a Christmas compilation entitled Death May Be Your Christmas Gift, featuring Lil McLintock, Leadbelly, Rev. Edward W. Clayborn (who appeared on the label earlier this year) , and a slew of other spectacular devotionals. It’s fantastic and wild horses shouldn’t keep you from playing a bit of it this Christmas. -DP
#3 – 11.30.2015 – Phinery unleashed their impressive November batch, with tapes from Golden Living Room, YlangYlang, Euglossine, low flung, CORIN & ju ca, and a split from OBA and Nico Niquo. Saunter over to their bandcamp to stream all six new releases and be sure to grab your favorites before they’re gone. -LP
#4 – 11.30.2015 – Carrboro-based Hot Releases shared the 12″ debut from Luciann Waldrup’s Housefire project, five tracks of “natriarchal psy-op trance 4-track cassette destruction” following on the Ambien collection she self-released digitally via Bandcamp earlier this spring. #5 – 12.1.2015 – Lillerne announced two new tapes: a split from Bastian Void and Kyle Landstra, and Differences by Clearing. Bastian Void’s side of the split cassette is “the perfect exercise playlist for a workout in space” while Landstra’s is characterized as the “comedown after the flight” with its smooth, purifying tones that overlap and dissipate. Clearing’s follow up to last year’s Be There sees Joseph Volmer expanding and refining his take on expansive, ambient soundscapes. #6 – 12.1.2015 – Aux reported on an incredible looking chiptune compilation, 8BIT MUSIC POWER, slated for release as a Famicom cartridge. The “in-game” footage gives the impressions there’s some measure of interactivity built into the whole thing, but it also looks and sounds great in any event. Though I can’t find any information about the company reportedly releasing the cartridge, click through to Aux for links and more information. -DP
#7 – 12.2.2015 – Not Not Fun posted an update on their recent trio of cassettes; a new collection of stone age meditations from Russian synth-fantasist X.Y.R., San Francisco trio Bronze’s third album, and a reissue of the debut from Melbourne prog duo Legendary Hearts. Grab those from Not Not Fun. -DP
#8 – 12.2.2015 – Decoder contributors Tachyons + revealed a new piece of video art gear, the “Textura Landscaper,” and I couldn’t help but share. A modified 90s Sony Video Painter, the Landscaper allows users to “glitch out that landscape with the added, modded glitch buttons and paint over that in normal mode” for a nearly infinite amount of possibilities.
