Idiot Glee – “I Don’t Feel Right”

Since the outset of James Friley’s Idiot Glee project in 2009, there’s been an eager and winsome undercurrent to his music that steps farther forward with each release that’s followed. Scanning his Bandcamp page, the Lexington, KY-based artist has covered some serious ground. Be it soul, piano-pop, Motown, or classic rock, Idiot Glee is Friley’s uninhibited means to bring people together. Rather than shy away from eclecticism, Friley’s approach centers around a genuine joy for creating, this perhaps being the reason he’s weathered the rise and fall of the blogosphere.

On “I Don’t Feel Right,” second single from a forthcoming self-titled LP, Friley enlisted the help of a full-band to move deeper into new territory. A fairly straight-forward acoustic guitar driven tune, creeping psychedelia via sound collages and warped samples blend to create the perfect backdrop to Friley’s downtrodden vocal delivery. Having had mild separation anxiety since 2014’s Four EP on Burger Records, we welcome back Idiot Glee with open arms.
