Treasure Hunt – PG-13

Treasure Hunt is the moniker of sound collagist and visual artist Myles-Byrne Dunhill, who’s new album PG-13 was released earlier this month digitally through UK-based Flamebait and on USB stick through one of the two imprints he runs, Slyme Records (the other being the more pop-oriented Pedicure Records). PG-13 is aptly titled, giving off an impressionistic portrait of a digitally animated children’s movie full of bubblegum naivety and moral storytelling, but also masking adult themes in perverted euphemistic allegory. This is manifested in the Rugrats-esque background arpeggiators of “Macaroni Pajamas” and the disorienting Steve Reich meets 4chan experiment of “Fluid.” Elsewhere, the smeared and abrasive but beautifully recorded, digital environments come across like an alternate universe where Microstoria scored a Pixar film.
