Opening things up this week — if you’re in Belgium and need a minute way to opt for variety this week — next Saturday the Eastern Daze festival will convene at Ghent’s Vooruit arts center, featuring performances by Görkem Şen, Antti Tolvi, Sarah Davachi, Arnold Dreyblatt, and others, as always focused on exploring cross-cultural transmission between east and west. “We’re at mid-November now, so the onslaught of best-of lists and year-end recaps are just right around the corner. As I was putting together this latest installment of the FFFoxy Podcast, though, it occurred to me just how much incredible new music has recently come out or is slated to come out in the weeks ahead. #1 – 11.15.2015 – Abstrak Muzak, “Founded by Memo Guerra (Cheap Talk, Cristo, Gods of Speed), Alejandro “Chivo” Elizondo (Los Mundos, Gods of Speed) and Jessica Gutierrez (akkia neko)” and operated out of Austin, TX and Monterrey in the Mexican state of Nuevo León, recently unveiled their second annual label compilation. Though many Decoder readers may remember the crew thanks to their wonderful White Ninja cassette, and he is represented in this installment (and in the label’s upcoming release schedule), the whole selection is a great mix of interstate pop-oddities. #2 – 11.16.2015 – Furious Hooves announced a run of new shirts with their classic logo, available in white on black or black on white. Gallop over here to nab one before they’re sold out! -LP
#3 – 11.17.2015 – Dream Recordings released Some Ember’s new EP, available via cassette and digital download. The fifth release from the duo of Dylan Travis and Nina Chase, Debts of Love sees the pair exploring new spaces via “song sketches” that are equated to “an acidifying ocean,” “a supreme pair of opposites,” and “the premonition you feel before receiving a text message,” among other things. #4 – 11.19.2015 – Brooklyn cassette label Ramp Local announced a repress of Macula Dog’s self-titled debut EP, originally released by fellow locals Haord Records. The EP is a zany tumble through well-zested pop, very much not to be missed. Order the repress on Bandcamp, and while you’re at it check out the slow-brewed sacral psych of the label’s latest original offering, Magi, courtesy of Columboid. -DP
#5 – 11.20.2015 – Electronic Beats offered a guide to some of the “weirdest” releases on Discogs and they’re mostly pretty great. The big takeaway for me is definitely that hair looks surprisingly good in transparent vinyl. The little takeaway might have something to do with “doo,” though I’m holding out hope the entry in question was fanciful. -DP
#6 – 11.20.2015 – Pulse Emitter began taking orders for a new t-shirt design, featuring a mashed up Romulan warbird and some sort of Federation craft courtesy of Hausu Mountain’s Maxwell Allison. Order via Pulse Emitter’s Bandcamp. -DP
#7 – 11.20.2015 – Anti-Gravity Bunny kicked off their year-end with a top ten list of collaborative drone recordings topped out by Benoît Pioulard and Kyle Bobby Dunn’s Perils LP for Desire Path. If you’re deadline free and not operating any heavy machinery, dig into that here. -DP
