Khotin – “Vitebsk”
The proliferation of recording software allows the artist a palette of musical canvases with which to create ever more versatile works, making it easier to jump between genres and styles. Edmonton’s Dylan Khotin-Foote is known for making lo-fi, electronic-tinged bedroom pop under a handful of monikers, including Happy Trendy and Kumon Plaza. With the Vitebsk 12-inch, released at the close of February on Normals Welcome, the Edmonton imprint where he currently works, Dylan delivers three slices of deep, crisp house for your listening pleasure. From the opening acid fuzz of the title track to the synth and drum machine-driven coda of “Dawn Flowers,” Khotin is a unique project for Dylan, one that scratches the itch for deep house as the new year unfolds before us. “You Could Feel the Sky,” available to stream below, is a slow burner that grooves along on a smooth hi-hat and bass kick, augmented by light piano stabs that give the track an atmospheric glow that hovers above throughout. In addition to the full track below you can stream snippets of the release here, as well as purchase the 12-inch in your preferred format over at the Normals Welcome store.
