Video Premiere: Avec Le Soleil Sortant De Sa Bouche – “Face à l’instant”
When it comes to pedigree, Constellation holds one of the higher ratios of quality-to-productivity. Much of this golden ratio is attributed to the constant and varied stream of projects that continue to pop up, ranging from the label’s repeat offenders (Godspeed, Esmerine, Sandro Perri, etc), forward-thinking newcomers (Ought, Sarah Neufeld), and new projects by longtime roster members (Hiss Tracts). But a much of the charm and intrigue in Constellation’s ever-evolving aesthetic lies with the continual cropping up of incestuous project featuring members of multiple Constellation acts. The latest entry into that category comes with Avec le soleil sortant de sa bouche, an eloquently named collaboration led by Jean-Sébastien Truchy (Fly Pan Am, Molasses, Red Mass, Set Fire To Flames, et al.) and featuring Sebastien Fournier, Nasir Hasan, and Eric Gingras (Pas Chic Chic, Fly Pan Am). The resulting sound continues where Fly Pan Am left off – the maniacal jazz- and noise-leaning kraut of 2004’s N’Écoutez Pas but removes the faceless ferocity and for propulsive grooves and colorful, agile rock, almost funk. The video for the first taste of the group’s Zubberdust! debut (“Face à l’instant”) focuses on a bizarre display of trippy effects and digitally-rendered psychosis to accompany the track’s locked-rhythm session. The ever-revolving, computer-generated bust spins ’round and ’round as various psychedelic ephemera crowds the frame, similar to the cyclical haze of aural noise plows along its repetitive line. Look for Zubberdust! to drop Sept. 30 via Constellation.
