The Fun Years, comprised of Ben Recht (guitar) and Isaac Sparks (turntables), began with a number of self-released CD-rs — early experiments that exposed their dim and moody fits of blurred post-rock, flirting with moments of what I would describe as utter perfection. After a handful of years on their own, the duo was picked up by Barge Recordings and has more recently begun partnering with Spring Break Tapes, first in 2014 for the engrossing One Quarter Descent and now for a brand new LP, Heroes of the Second Story Walk-up, due out early next year. The LP is a welcome return for the Fun Years and marks SBTapes’ first foray into vinyl. “Ask For The Omega Man” is the first aural taste of the new album and delivers the duo’s pensive, warm take on introspective loops. Baritone chords and subtle sets of static fill the space, revealing oddly inviting cycles of sound. It’s the perfect extended teaser for what will surely be a gem of 2017.

Pre-order Heroes of the Second Story Walk-up directly from the label. And don’t hesitate, as the first undisclosed number of pre-orders will come with an undisclosed (undecided?) bonus  treat.
